I am Robin, a garden designer and visual artist who specializes in transforming outdoor spaces into places of beauty and calm. I will visit your home and spend time looking at your space and talking with you about your vision. If you don't have a vision and don't know where to start, I am here to help. I enjoy working with clients to understand how they want to use their outdoor space, coming up with a design plan, and overseeing the project through to completion.
My Story
I have been an avid gardener and visual artist for decades. After leaving my law career behind, I turned my attention to doing the work I love: designing and installing gardens. I use my skills as a painter to view your outdoor space as a blank canvas ready to fill with color and beauty. I have experience with hardscape elements such as brickwork and decomposed granite, as well as various approaches to adding planting beds, pathways and small retaining walls. I enjoy incorporating water features and structures such as pergolas to create cozy, comfortable areas for relaxing or entertaining. I am particularly fond of creating friendly environments for birds, butterflies and bees.
I call my business Beatrix Gardens in honor of two women who have inspired me: Beatrix Farrand, the first prominent American woman landscape gardener and the only woman among the founders of the American Society of Landscape Architects; and Beatrix Potter, who loved gardens and gardening as much as she loved her sweet characters and whose love of gardens shines through in her magical illustrations.
